We Are

Hotel Kríunes is a small slice of paradise located on the outskirt of Reykjavík city in Iceland. This family owned hotel was established in 1998 and updated in 2020 by Björn Ingi Stefánsson and his family. With special personalized service and a relaxed atmosphere, Hotel Kríunes makes you feel at home.

Hotel Kríunes is only 15 min driving from the Reykjavík city center. The hotel facilities are set in a land of unspoiled natural parkland with exceptional mountain view over looking the lake Ellidavatn. This hotel is the ideal choice for those who want to relax in the beauty of Iceland’s scenery and wildlife.

The hotel kitchen is renowned for its home-baking and home-grown vegetables, as well as providing freshly caught trout from the lake.

The Icelandic Horse

The Icelandic horse has remained pure for more than 900 years and is one of the purest breed in the World. The Icelandic horse is a major attraction in Iceland. The area around Hotel Kríunes is the biggest combination of horse farms in the whole world with around 15.000 horses. Many great riding tracks are within the area in very beautiful natural surroundings. Horse rentals are available in the area from 1 hour up to 6 hours riding tours. Golf Course

The golf course GKG is located in the town Gardabaer, in a small valley only 6 km distance from Hotel Kríunes. GKG has two golf courses, 18 hole course called Leirdalur and 9 hole course called Mýrin. Leirdalur golf course is considered to be one of the most interesting and pleasant golf courses in Iceland. Mýrin is a challenging 9 hole course that tests every golfer from beginners to the low handicappers. In June and July it is possible to play golf during the nights under the midnight sun.


All types of museums are in Reykjavik, Árbaejarsafn is the closest to Hotel Kríunes. Árbaejarsafn Museum is an open air museum where the lifestyle and architecture of the earlier time is displayed. Most of the buildings in the museum has been moved from Reykjavík city.


Heidmörk Nature Park is one of the most popular areas for outdoor recreation in the capital area of Reykjavík City. With more than 4 million trees, 60 types of birds and about 40 km of gravel road network. Heidmörk is located on volcanic active area and contains the largest drinking water well fields in Iceland. Heidmörk became a conversation area in 1950.


Raudhólar are a cluster of pseudo craters in Ellidaárhraun lava fields which were formed for more than 5.200 years ago from the lava field of eastern side of Bláfjöll mountain. When the lava field fled over a wetland the craters were formed. The craters were originally more than 80 but in the 20th century most of the craters were used for construction. British army used the material to built the Reykjavík airport and road building during World War II. A number of caves can be found in the area, such as Mariuhellir and Draugahellar.

Thermal Pools

If you are in Iceland you have to try one of Icelandic geothermal pools which are heated up with warm natural water. The pools Arbaejarlaug and Breidholtslaug are closest to Hotel Kriunes, about 5 kilometres away.
